US, India organize workshop on ECBC

According to reports, the workshop, recently organized by USAID and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under Ministry of Power, is part of the five-year, $20 million USAID funded Partnership to Advance Clean Energy or PACE-D technical assistance contract.

The program has three key focus areas: to improve end use energy efficiency, to increase the renewable energy supply, and to accelerate the deployment of cleaner fossil technologies.

The expert group assessed the status of energy efficiency initiatives in India’s building sector and deliberated on revisions to the ECBC to ultimately increase the number of net-zero energy buildings. They also presented a compliance and enforcement plan for its effective implementation in the country.

“Small changes in the energy performance of buildings can have a significant impact on a country’s overall energy consumption pattern,” said Jeremy Gustafson, Director, Clean Energy and Environment Office at USAID India.

“USAID is pleased to support this consultative workshop to bring the technical stakeholders together to chart the path ahead for the ECBC code in India.”

Workshop participants included technical experts and key stakeholders from state development agencies, research institutions, private architectural and design organizations, building developers and relevant government bodies.
