Misconceptions about nuclear energy must go: Dr Kakodkar ,Chairman Solar Energy Corp of India

According to reports, misconceptions about the nuclear energy should be cleared, and the share of the nuclear energy in the energy basket of the country must increase, former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr Anil Kakodkar said here today.

Talking to reporters at the Gondwana University here, where he inaugurated a workshop, Dr Kakodkar said efforts were needed to bridge the gap between the electricity demand and supply. Apart from nuclear energy, solar and wind energy could also be alternative sources, he added.

When asked about the apprehensions about safety of nuclear plants in the wake of the situation witnessed at Fukushima, Japan, Kakodkar pointed out that not a single life was lost due the dysfunctioning reactors there.

He also maintained that nuclear cooperation pacts entered into by India with USA did not harm national interests. “We could not expand our nuclear reactors due to lack of uranium. The agreements will solve this problem,” he said.

  1. Dear Kakodkar: kindly wait for another 10 years, your misconception that Nuclear Deal was a solution to Indian Power crisis will go away due to Solar Revolution including storage, thus, health hazardous Nuclear technology is not at all needed to India and will not be necessary as we already learnt living without Nuclear in the past 20 years, so why Impose Nuclear Deal costs on Public?? Instead provide interest subsidy of equivalent amount to be spent on Nuclear deal to make 25 to 50 MW of solar Power project in every taluka which will give food to many rural employees…. uranium is not needed to survive, it is Roti through Jobs in their own native land, which will be more worth of millions….
