Manipal varsity signs MoU with German institute for solar cells lab

According to reports, the Manipal University, who has collaboration with various foreign universities to promote research, touched another milestone by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Print Media Technology of Chemnitz University of Technology (CUT), Germany, recently.

Under this MoU, CUT has launched a new laboratory for printed solar cells at Innovation Centre of Manipal University. This lab will serve as basis for analyses and projects on printed solar cells.

In the first project of this MoU, the new lab will concentrate on application-related tests on Printed Paper Photovoltaic (PPP). This innovative technology, developed by a team of teaching faculties headed by professor Arved C Hubler of CUT and this technology helps produce electricity.

CUT in association with MU and other Indian institutions, will analyze the efficiency of PPP under real conditions. CUT is planning to develop some possible PPP business models for the market. An Indo-German Industrial Advisory Board will continually supervize the new laboratory activities.

Opening of the new laboratory in India will help promote the excellence of CUT at the international level, as a result more international students come to CUT, said Amold Van Zyl, chancellor of CUT.

He said the number of Indian students alone has increased in the recent years.

In 2010-11, 40 Indian students have enrolled at CUT and the in 2012013, 40 Indian students have enrolled.

“Started in 2008, the only Indo-German double degree Master’s programme Print and Media Technology allows students of both the universities to study in both the countries,” he said.
