Light emitting diode tube lights from Keltron

According to reports, Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) is all set to roll out its first product of Green Star LED (light emitting diode) tube light from its integrated manufacturing unit at Mudadi near Kozhikode. The product promises to save almost 50% energy in comparison with the conventional 36W tube light and 20% more illumination.

“LED traffic signals were manufactured at the Mudadi unit earlier; we have now upgraded the unit, investing Rs 2 crore, and equipped it with a two-stage wave soldering machine for high capacity LED conversion and testing equipment,” Keltron general manager (corporate planning) K S Beena said.

She said the plan was to produce 25,000 Green Star LED tube lights a month at the facility and to augment production according to demand. “The product is expected to generate demand as it helps save energy, offer better illumination and help increase service life,” she said.

Beena said the product would be followed by a T8 LED retrofit tube light, which would offer a one-to-one replacement for the standard tube light in existing fixtures. She said it would help save the costs incurred while implementing energy-saving measures.

The other products planned include a range of LED-based bulbs, down lights, ceiling panels, streetlights, solar standalone streetlights, home lights and industrial lights for hazardous areas.

Chief general manager Michael Suresh said the organization was planning a network of outlets across the state with a team of technically qualified personnel.
