Gujarat bought 7,08,254 million units electricity from pvt sector in 2012

According to reports, Gujarat government bought 65,900 million unit (MU) electricity in 2011 and 7,08,254 MU in 2012 at average price of Rs 2.97 and Rs 3.27 per unit from private companies.

In a written reply to Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar, state energy and petrochemical minister Saurabh Patel said that in 2011 and 2012, the state government bought 17,759 MU and 19,446 MU respectively from central sector, 26,067 MU and 23,270 MU from Gujarat State Electricity Ltd and 5,205 MU and 5,291 MU from government-promoted independent power producer (IPP).

From the private sector, the state government bought the highest – 9,823 MU and 10,034 MU electricity from Adani power in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Government bought costliest power from China light and power India pvt ltd at Rs 4.72 (3177 MU) and Rs 6.81 (1852 MU) per unit in 2011 and 212.

The government bought a total of 70824 MU electricity which cost Rs 23,148 crore in 2012 to the state exchequer.

The state government bought 2,415 MU in 2011 and 4,398 MU in 2011 and 2012 respectively from renewable power sources like windpower, solar power and other renewable sources and captive power plants.

Government bought solar power at Rs 15 and Rs 14.30 per unit in 2011 and 2012.

The minster in a response to another question by Congress MLA Gyasudin Shiekh informed that pick-level demand of electricity in state as on 31-01-2013 was 10,404 MW.
