Goa government moots legislation to increase energy efficiency

According to reports, chief minister Manohar Parrikar asserted that Goa will soon be the first state in the country to have a legislation that will provide for energy auditing of industries with a view to enable them to minimize carbon footprints and enhance energy efficiency.

Addressing the delegates at the national executive committee meeting of Laghu Udyog Bharati at Margao on Saturday, Parrikar admitted that the public transport system in Goa was not so good, owing to which people preferred travelling by their own modes of conveyance thereby adding to the already high carbon emissions. “The internal connectivity of public transport is also not good, and unless this connectivity is improved, the number of cars and motorcycles on the roads will be on the rise,” Parrikar said.

The chief minister also disapproved of the blatant use of plastic as packaging material and advocated less use of plastic by the people.

Speaking further, Parrikar stressed that Goa needed good industrial units that would generate varied employment opportunities for the locals, and promised industrial houses and entrepreneurs of all help from the state government for the purpose. “Quick decisions (by the government), no hassles, and no mousetraps,” was what the chief minister assured to those who wished to bring in “transparent and proper” industries to Goa.
